Beit Byout (2022)

Artist Name: Aiman Daw

Beit HaGafen Art Gallery cordially invites you to Beit Byout, the first solo exhibition by the artist and costume designer Aiman Daw. The exhibition works combine Daw’s work in fashion with other media including performance, video and sculpture. The exhibition is on the gallery’s top floor and includes works in textile, mixed-media objects and costumes.
Beit Byout embarks from Daw’s grandmother’s house in Kafr Yasif. As a child Daw spent time in this house playing imaginary games with the various objects he found there: fabrics, sheets, clothes, shoes, perfume bottles, pictures, gifts and jewelry, creating fantasy worlds and homes. The term “beit byout” in Arabic refers to children’s make-belief games, in which magical little houses are made from things at arm’s reach. Daw’s current make-belief house is made from vibrantly colored textiles of many textures, illustrated with flowers and popular images, through which he explores material and spatial memories.

Ayman Daw (b. 1991) lives and works in Haifa. He is a fashion and costume designer, stylist and actor. Studied at the Marangoni Academy in Milano. Daw collaborates with musicians, theater and television creators including Lina Makhoul and Maisa Abd Elhadi. The exhibition at the Beit HaGefen Art Gallery is part of a series of solo exhibitions presenting young artists from Haifa and its environs.
